Datong · Route
A two-day Datong plan: day one at Yungang Grottoes and the old city temples; day two to the cliff-hanging Xuankong Temple, Mount Heng and the 1,000-ye
The full morning at the caves (¥150) — the Tanyao Five, then caves 5 and 6 with their painted interiors. Return to the city for lunch.
The old city temple trio (¥80 + ¥50 + ¥10) and a stroll along the lantern-lit wall at dusk.
90 minutes southwest to the Hanging Temple of Hengshan (¥130, 08:00–18:00). Climb the cliff halls before the tour buses arrive.
The northern sacred mountain (¥30 + temple ¥60) — cable car up, temple terraces and valley views down.
The 67-metre timber tower of 1056 (¥61, 07:00–19:00) — circle it twice, then local liangfen noodles for the road.
A coal-furnace hotpot dinner and one last night over the illuminated wall.
