The classic start: 10 km from Hongmenyan with 500 m of climbing to Wanghai Peak (2,795 m). Sleep at the simple terrace hostel for the dawn.
East Terrace at first light — the most famous dawn in Shanxi. Then the 15 km ridge traverse towards North Terrace.
Camp or lodge at Yedou Peak (3,058 m), the highest point in northern China — snow patches even in July, stars like nowhere else.
The Dragon-turned-stone terrace with its weathered rock gardens; a final descent through the conifer belt.
