Shenzhen Pengcheng name comes from this Ming fortress — Dapeng Fortress in the morning, then the wild Dongchong-Xichong coastal trail on the Dapeng tip. History, headlands and a swim; bookable end-to-end by our team.
Dapeng Fortress. Buses 360/364 out to Dapeng station, then 818 to the fortress (RMB 20, 08:00-20:00). Walk the Ming-Qing flagstone lanes, the old general mansions and the sea-facing walls — the coastal defence stronghold of 1394 that gave Shenzhen its nickname Pengcheng. Budget three hours.
Nan Ao to Xichong. Bus or taxi on to Nan Ao, then a local shuttle to Xichong village. Lunch on Nan Ao seafood — the abalone capital of Guangdong. Xichong beach itself is free, with swimming, beach volleyball, speedboats and barbecue pits.
The coastal crossing. The Dongchong-Xichong trail runs about four hours over rocky headlands between the two villages — turquoise water, wild pineapple scrub and white sand coves. Wear grippy shoes and sun protection. Finish with a swim, then shuttle back to Nan Ao for the bus west.
Hotels, theme-park tickets, beach shuttles and guides arranged by our team — free of charge, no obligation.
