Fifteen kilometres west of the city, the Leiqiong Haikou Volcanic Geopark at Shishan town — a rift-valley basalt field and one of China's few Holocene dormant volcanoes, wrapped in tropical rainforest. Bookable end-to-end by our team.
Out to Shishan. Take buses 7, 16 or 24 to the Haiyu middle line / Baishuitang stop, and change to the Xiuying–volcano shuttle; or bus 2 to the Xiuying terminus and the same shuttle. Tickets ¥45–60, hours 08:00–18:00 (+86 898 6546 9668). Walk the Fengluling crater rim, descend the stone path around the cone, and follow the rainforest boardwalk past old lava channels and basalt caves.
Shishan slow-raised mutton. The crater's volcanic soil is exactly what these free-range black goats eat — the local method is soup-rinsed, white-cut, red-braised or medicinal, with mutton hotpot the favourite. Try the Shishan Ruyao Mutton No.1 style meal (~¥64 pp) in a restaurant near the park or back in the city.
Beach sunset. Shuttle and bus back to the coast for Holiday Beach — walk the 6.2 km of palms, swim or rent a surfboard, and wait for the sunset over the Qiongzhou Strait. The open-air seafood barbecue plaza fires up as it gets dark. If you arrive before 20:30, the Impression · Hainan Island show is the evening close.
Hotels, volcano-park tickets, high-speed-rail seats and guides arranged by our team — free of charge, no obligation.
