Dongzhai Port Mangrove Day Trip
Thirty kilometres east of the city, Dongzhai Port Mangrove Nature Reserve — China's largest mangrove reserve, 16 families and 32 species of "sea forest" over a funnel-shaped tidal coast, with boat trips to Wild Pineapple Island and the sunken "underwater village". Bookable end-to-end by our team.
Day Plan
Out to the sea forest. The Yanfeng-bound minibus from Five Officials Temple (¥5) and a three-wheeler (¥2) to the reserve gate (+86 898 6538 0886). Entry ¥25; the water-observation boat tour ¥55 (09:00–17:30, last entry 17:00). Drift the tidal channels between mangrove roots — 16 families, 32 species, the birdwatching and seafood on the banks.
Wild Pineapple Island & the underwater village. The boat crosses to Wild Pineapple Island — boardwalks through bizarre wild-pineapple groves, a quiet pause in the green. Out in the bay, at low tide, the stone foundations of the "underwater village" — a whole coastal town sunk by the 1605 earthquake — are the geological oddity the reserve is famous for. Lunch on simple fisherman dishes at the Yanfeng village wharf.
Back along the coast to Xixiu Beach. Return west by charter or coastal road, and stop at the jade-green strip of Xixiu Beach — the calm neighbour of Holiday Beach, perfect for a last swim and sunset before dinner in the city. If you prefer, add the Holiday Beach barbecue plaza for the evening.
