When is the best time to visit Dalian?

Short answer
May to September offers the best climate and scenery. The peak season runs from the late-May acacia blossom festival and export fair to the early-September International Fashion Festival. August brings the famous Beer Festival at Xinghai Square. From October the sea cools and the crowds thin — September–October is prime seaside fishing season.

- Spring (Mar–May): Around 15°C — cherry blossoms peak at Longwangtang in early-to-mid May; light jackets and sweaters.
- Summer (Jun–early Sep): Up to 30–32°C, the busiest window. Hotels are pricier and beaches fill up — book well ahead.
- Autumn (late Sep–early Nov): 16–20°C, thin crowds, perfect seafood weather. Ideal for photographers.
- Winter (late Nov–early Mar): Cold (low around –14°C) but atmospheric — the January ice-lantern festival lights up Bingyu Valley.
