Is the sea clean enough to swim in?

Short answer
Yes — Dalian's water is clean, though with more pebbles than Qingdao or Sanya, so pack sandals. Stick to the famous beaches: Fujiazhuang, Xinghai and Bangchuidao near the city, Golden Pebble further out. Go in summer when the water is warm.

- Bangchuidao: ¥20, small-pebble beach — bus 703 to Shanping Street + taxi ≈¥10, or speedboat from Tiger Beach.
- Golden Sand Beach: Near Xinghai Square — buses 702, 5.
- Daheishi: 30 km out, 3.5 km golden coast — bus from the station ¥2.
- Jellyfish warning: Jellyfish drift around Jinshitan's bathing areas — never touch the translucent blobs you see floating in the water.
