Start at People’s Square for the free Shanghai Museum (9:00–17:00, last entry 16:00), then wander Nanjing Road East — China’s most famous shopping street.
Walk to the Bund for the heritage facades and the Pudong skyline; cross to the old town for xiaolongbao at the City God Temple and the Yuyuan zigzag bridge (¥40 peak season).
Return to the Bund after dark — the colonial buildings and Pudong towers light up the Huangpu River.
