Yuntai Mountain · Day Trip
The sacred peak where the mythic Shennong tasted herbs — sheer cliffs, the oldest Three Gates of Heaven in China, and a cable-car summit.
Leave from the park gate to the Shennong Mountain scenic area, 23 km north-west of Yuntai at the Henan–Shanxi border.
Take the cable car or start the stairway climb to the 1,028 m Zijin Peak — the route passes the Three Gates of Heaven, said to predate Mount Tai's by 154 years.
Enjoy the ridge views and the bronze Yan Emperor shrine; lunch is simple noodles or a packed meal at the peak.
Descend past the Northern Wei Yongtai Temple and the cliff carvings, where generations of pilgrims left their mark.
Coach back to the park gate in time for dinner and an early night before day two.
