Morning metro line 4 to Tongli station, then a short taxi to the town gate. Start at Tuisi Garden before the tour buses — the late-Qing pond garden is at its best early.
Walk the lucky Three Bridges (Taiping, Jili, Changqing), thread the famous Chuanxin Lane and stop for Ah-Po grandma tea on the canal steps; lunch on the town's Scholar Trotter.
Take a late-afternoon rowboat through the bridges, then the metro back to Suzhou for the evening streets.
