Known as the 'Guilin of the South of Liaoning', the 'Jiuzhai of the Northeast' and the 'Little Switzerland of the East', Bingyu Valley is a scenic gorge of northern boldness and southern delicacy — best in July–August when the mountains are green and cool. It lies in Zhuanghe, about 160 km from downtown Dalian.
Bus from Beigangqiao station to Zhuanghe then transfer, or the direct sightseeing coach from Dalian railway station (¥45–50, departs 7:20 daily, 2+ hours). Boat through Yunshui Ferry, Xianren Ferry, Double Dragon Confluence and Swordsman Rock.
Tianmenshan National Forest Park — Thousand Buddha Cave, Tianmen Peak, Observatory Deck, General Rock and Tianmen Lake. Stay at the lakeside villas if you overnight.
Outside the gorge, farmhouse meals are cheap and fresh — try Zhuanghe's famous dagu ji chicken, river shrimp, mountain greens and wild mushrooms.
