The program, run by China’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, certifies villages whose signature agricultural or handicraft product has become a local economic pillar and a point of regional pride. The local tea is prized for its terroir: the mountains, soil and climate of the region shape a distinctive aroma and flavor that tea lovers seek out across China.
