Why Zhong yak from Yushu?
Zhong yak is one of the nationally recognized “One Village One Product” specialties of Hongqi Village, Qumalai County, Qumalai County, Yushu, Qinghai province, China. The program, run by China’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, certifies villages whose signature agricultural or handicraft product has become a local economic pillar and a point of regional pride. Raised in the region's traditional way, the meat product is prized for its flavor and is a centerpiece of local festive meals and gift-giving.

The certified village is located in Qumalai County, Yushu — usually within an hour or two of the city center. Many One Village One Product villages welcome visitors for orchard and field visits, product tastings and cultural experiences.
